heres my story:
i have an 88 iroc-z28 with a 350 tpi , 700r4, and 9 bolt 2:77's. i bought the car last may with 93k on the odometer. it looked very very clean and ran good then one nite in july the motor started knockin after i got off the highway. well in late august me and a friend put a motor in it that i bought from a motor supply company here in dallas named CITY MOTOR. i paid over $700 for a premium long block(meaning it was complete, even the valves were set), i didnt put a cam in it or anything just left it stock. well after 1500 miles it started knocking again. the motor is still under warranty and this is my plan. i am going to pull this bad motor out and get a new one from the motor supply place and never do business with them again. this time i got a crane cam PN:104224, matching valve springs and a crane adjustable fuel pressure regulator. this week im going to order some edelbrock headers from jegs and possibly some underdrive pulleys also. i am also going to completely tear this motor down and overhaul it and get the new cam degreed. i jus want to know what everyone thinks about that cam in the l98 if anyone has used it and if theyre satisfied, also does it have a little bit of a chop at idle or what????????and do u think that it would be alright to drive everyday without havin to worry about it dyin at lights and stuff
thanks a lot!

Have you found out exaclty what caused the knock in both motors? Chances are if your old motor and new motor had the same symptoms that the problem wasn't the new motor. I would find out exaclty what is causing the knock. It could be very simple and save you a lot of $$ and time.
nah i havent tore down either one, the first one i had to use as a core and was in a rush to get the car back together cuz i was starting school 12 hours after we got the new motor goin again : )
this is what happened on the original motor: i was racing a friend on the highway and i punched it from about 80mph, my tranny slipped and caught at redline then shifted a thousand rpms after redline, so im guessing it was overreved, oil pressure dropped too

ive also heard that the place i bought the motor from uses impacts to build their motors. everyone i talked to after i put that motor in there said that they were a bad place to go to so this time on the new block me and that same friend are going to overhaul it and use a high volume/high pressure oil pump

just use the standard oil pump you dont need a high volume pump i thought the same do a search. all the big boys still run the stock pumps.
