Computer question for LT1 swap
Friend has an LT1 out of a 96 SS Impala. I am wondering if I can buy an older computer/wiring harness, the OBD 1 type rather than the OBD2. I heard they are much easier to work with and have less emmisions stuff to worry about. Is it possible? What are anyones experiences with the differences between the two? Thanks.

Isnt the wiring completely different? My 305 is dying and Im trying to decide what to do. I dont really want some yard 350 as I wanna make the car nice, but Im really starting to wonder how long that 305 has left. I could probably buy a standard GM 350 new, I think they are about 1500 dollars. Id rather do something nice though and my friend will sell me this LT1 with only 24000 miles on it with most of the accesories for 500 dollars. Only thing is its missing the intake and fuel rail stuff. I would probably buy all the parts myself and find some deals, then have a qualified shop do it, if I can find somewhere decent that does custom work. I have a budget of probably about 3000. Maybe 4 if I can sell my truck soon. Does anyone remember what their costs were? And how hard/costly is it to get the OBD2 computer programmed if you mod? Thanks.
If you're going to have a shop do it, forget it. You'll at least double the price, especially as cheap as you could get it, if you have a shop do it. If thats no problem for you, go for it, but I know I wouldn't want to double the price in labor costs alone.
