Tach reads double and timing marks way off...any Ideas????????
This is probably a comon question but I read back in the board and didn't find an answer. I just dropped in a 350 in my '88 vert and my tach reads nowhere near correct..it was very close before.... and when i put a timing light on it, it reads off the bracket to the left...any help?

Timing mark: Either a) You need to adjust timing, or b) You have a 12 o'clock damper and a 1:30 timing tab.
Tach - not sure. What all did you change?

Timing is adjusted..by ear....when it it's really close to running right the mark on the balancer reads about 1/2 inch to the left of the timing bracket degree marks. I read somewhere I have to cut a black with yellow stripe wire that runs along the upper left fire wall to to set it, then re connect the wire. read somewhere I have to cut a wire between the coil and dist?????? I need some solid info ..which is it?...I dropped in a fresh 30 over 1970 4 bolt main 350 out of a '70 'vette, Casting #3970010, (no it's not an LT1 at least I don't think it is ),not too wild bump stick, carburerated...but I am buying a Holley stealth ram fuel injection set up for it this weekend...and I'm shopping for the right aluminum head / cam combo to run with the Stealth Ram ......it was a factory '88 305 tbi
