l98,lt1 or ls1?

Alright so heres my delema i have come across some money and insted of speeding boatloads of money on a l03 ive descided to do a motor swap and my question is what engine shouldi do. i found a palce with all sorts of camaro parts and heres what they have l98 full with tranny harness and evertything a/c you name it for $1200, a lt1 same thing $1800 orrr ls1 for $2800. i really dont know i was thinking ls1 but 2800 is pretty steepand lt1 well my friend told me " they dont sound too good" and well tpi has no top end so what do i want it for so im stuck can anyone help?

first off, are you doing the work yourself? if so then that will save you alot of money wich makes the cost of either motor not as much of a concern. however you will almost certainly have to spend more money on top of the cost of the motors themselves on odds and ends. and if it were me and i had the money i would most certainly do the ls1 swap. but i would stay away from an l98 unless your just looking for a modest boost in power for a nice cruiser. not to knock the l98 i think it WAS a great engine 10 years ago, but if your looking for a big boost in power ide go with either the lt1 or the ls1 and the ls1 being preferable. not too mention the wow factor of popping the hood and finding a 4th gen engine in a 3rd gen, and while this should not be a great factor in your decision both the lt1 and ls1 do get better gas mileage. and whats this about your friend saying "lt1's dont sound too good"?

"its exaust note isnt as smooth and "cool" as the ls1" and yes we will be donig all the work our selves the lt1 looks easyer yet the ls1 has a bit more power.

if money isn't the issue go LS1, gobs of hp over stick with just cam and intake, throw in a set of heads and you're looking at over 500 hp
