96' LT1 - O2 Sensors?

Hi all!

I am currently working on dropping an LT1 from a '96 caprice into my '90 firebird (LO3). I've got the engine wiring harness from the caprice.

The '96 LT1 has 4 oxygen sensors. I am planning on converting to OBDI, but I want to know if it is possible to keep my Hooker shorty headers and catback. Right now they only have one O2 bung (I think in the Y-pipe). Is this possible? Can you delete one of the pre-cat O2's from the PCM? If not, what are my options.

Thanks!

-Andrew

PS: Sorry if this has been asked b4, but can't search for O2 since len("O2") < 3....

OBD1 is 2 O2 sensors
OBD2 is 4

u keep the ones that go in the manifolds. or headers.. ditch the ones that go around the cat.

if you have only 1 hole in the y pipe.. you can easily fill it in and get 2 bungs.. or 18x1.25 nuts and get exhaust shop to put em in the headers at the collector.. thats what i did. and i did swap in garage.. and pluged the 2 o2 in but left em under the hood hanging.. (careful they are heated) .. and went to town.. got muffler sho to put em in. i have hedman headers but im sure its the same.

that's what I figured I'd have to do. Oh well. Once I go to odbI I will have the 2 O2's after the cat(s) deleted. I haven't dropped the engine in yet, so I think I will just take the headers to the shop and have them do it off the engine.

Thanks for the advice, Thirim!

I am doing basically the same thing, 96 Roadmaster engine into my 85 and converted to 95 Z28 PCM programming (OBDI), I have hooker shorties 2055 with only 1 bung so I had the other put onto the very top of the other y-pipe ill grab a pic in a few days.

Easier to install into y-pipe then collector, less meterial for them to go through and less to screw up .... had mine instead for 40 CAN$

Good tip Drakar, thanks!

A pic would be awesome! I'll print it out and bring it to the shop so they know exactly what to do!

I have the 2055's too!
