How much for an LS1 or LT1?
I am begining to shop around for a new motor. I currently have a 305 TPI with slightly over 100k on it. It runs well, but I am looking for more power for my daily driver. I would actually like a used motor instead of a brand new engine, something from a junkyard or engine shop. I have a couple questions regarding all this though. One, what engine shops would everyone recommend talking to because I have never done this before. Second, how much should I expect to possibly pay for a complete LS1 or LT1 setup? I would really like a LT1 but I hear that those are much more expensive than the LS1. I have searched these boards and haven't found anything really helpful. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You didn't get that information from these boards..
You want an LT1, they are MUCH cheaper....
If you're going to have a shop do the work, don't do an engine swap. Just keep your TPI and get a 350 and go from there.
The LT1 is a cheaper and relatively easier swap than the LS1.
I got a complete LT1 with accessories, wiring harness, and PCM for $1500 almost 5 years ago now. Now you should be able to get one for $1000 or less with an LS1 running around $2000.

A COMPLETE LS1 (meaning with wiring harness, PCM, and all accessories) will vary greatly in price, depending on the mileage.
A higher mileage motor will run you $2-$2500. A lower mileage motor will run you usually $3-$4000. An 4-speed Auto 4L60E tranny for the LS1 will run you $500-$1000. The T56 6-speed manual trans will run you $1200-$1800.
The T56 for the LT1 and the LS1 are different, and are NOT directly compatible, so make sure you get the right one for the right engine. You existing transmission from your TPI setup will not last long with an LS1, from what people have reported on other boards.
The LT1 swap is reportedly MUCH cheaper than the LS1 swap is. Most of us doing the LS1 swap will invest at least an extra $5k or more AFTER buying the engine & tranny, before done. Some of that is for performance & suspension upgrades, but the LS1 swap is definitely not to be taken lightly, or without a LOT of research.

I spent a grand on my LT1 engine with all accessories and some other stuff, it was well worth it. I spent $1200 on the T56, also a good dea since mine included a Spec clutch and a B&M Shifter.
I neglected to factor in the other stuff you'd need. I.E. SLP 1 3/4 headers and y-pipe among the more expensive stuff. It really all depends on how much you're willing to spend. The LT1 will generally ber cheaper....

I am thinking now that maybe i should just have my engine "rebuilt", with some higher performance parts. I don't want to go over kill on horsepower because the car is my daily driver right now. I appreciate everyones input. Thanks all.
