want to know what will accomplish my goals

hello all,
havent posted in a while been using the search button too much
any way, i have a 1984 Z28 with the lg4 in it, nothing hot, i have a lot of fun with it though.
having posted in the swap board you may have guessed id like to do a 350 swap, i know what i would want as far as the short block goes, but my questions are

-will putting in a 350 shortblock with flat tops (9to1 to 10to1 works for me) and a matched cam, get me 300hp to the wheels?

As far as the cam goes i dont see going any higher the 6000 ever, prolly stay around 5500. Heads would get rebuilt, good valves or valve job, new springs matched to cam, roller tipped steel rockers. With in the next two weeks i will try my hand at rebuilding my carb i have a edlebrock performer manifold and headers for mods. (manifold wasnt really a mod more like a my old one popped a hole)

the way i figure it, lt1 camaros can get 300 to the wheels easy, intake exhaust mods, i want to beat/pace most 4th gens, forget ****. i think around 300 to the wheels and a good suspension can give me what i want, i dont see getting bad gas milage and not getting the power that goes with it

i have some 487 heads (big chambers...) and a holley street avenger 670 in the closet, if the stock stuff wont get me there but i hope it can.

this car is driven every day and drivability is a factor, but most 300hp motors are very streetable...

thanks for any help sudgestions combos you have seen or have that might be good for me.

What "stock" heads are we talking about? I can imagine several "stock" 350 heads that would be severely challenged trying to make 300 RWHP.

The Performer manifold probably isn't going to cut it. An RPM, maybe. What carb are you using?

You'll have to design the "package" for around 400 GFHP.

the stock lg4 heads

i would like to change the manifold too, maybe the air gap or air gap rpm

so if i make the engine to 400hp it lose 100 hp through the tranny and rear end? that quite alot.

guess im asking if the freshened up lg4 top end will make good power on a cammed 350 short block with flat tops

As it sits, no. Those heads as they come will flow a litle over 300 HP worth of air, with the 305 valves and stock as-cast ports.

However, if you put the stock 350-sized valves in it and use the undercut-head ones, such as Manley Street-Flow; and do a good bowl port job; you might get alot closer.

You'll have to cam any 350. Kind of goes without saying. Won't run at all without one. As far as how much power you'd get, that depends on what kind of cam you use.

Go for 350 to the wheels, and if you want to match up against an LS1, go for 400. Most LT1s I know put out 320+ to the wheels. Most LS1s I know, 400+. Unless you want to tease stockers, but what fun is that, most everyone at the track is modded.
