swapping carb for tpi
i had a 305 tpi and was racing at the closest drag strip and though i blew a head gasket. the next i get the heads off and find it to be a cracked piston and cracked block. now i am preparing to carb my 350 i'm putting in. is this a mistake or should i go the way i'm going. i know thw cam i have is to big for the computer to adjust for it. but should i have spent the money for a computer to be programed or just stay with the carb. and yes i know mpg will be less. any incite is apperciate.

We normally don't like to see incite on the board, but perhaps we can provide some insight...
The EFI vs. carb decision really has to be based on primary use, or to put it another why, what is most important to you. If fuel economy, emissions, and general daily driving manners are primary, stay with TPI. If all-out drag strip performance is more important, go carb.
Whichever you decide, you have to design a "package". The cam is part of that package. The one you would get for carb is most likely going to be different than the best one to get for TPI.
As for the computer, get the equipment and do your own PROM tuning. There's a forum on the board dedicated just to that process.

i am a carb guy, but have always wanted to tinker with FI. there are plenty of aftermarket parts to get that tpi to flow well. runners and upper/lower intakes. Accel has the superram, edelbrock has stuff, and so does SLP.
