My first idea would be odometer fraud. It's illegal in most states that I know of.

I rolled mine back when I first got the 88 Camaro... like 6 years ago I think?

Never had any problems at all... almost 70k miles later.

Only illegal when you try and sell it

Probably true. But, it's not a good idea in any case.

In Colorado, cars of a certain age and older are not checked when transferred. All 3rd gens fall into that category. I guess they figure after a certain age, mileage is no longer the deciding factor in value. However, I believe it is still fraud if you attempt to represent it as having fewer miles than it actually has.

If the engine is replaced or rebuilt, simply record the mileage at which it was replaced/rebuilt, and leave it at that.

I rolled mine forward simply for the fact that I wanted an accurate account of how many miles I had on my new engine. I had also swapped my 85mph cluster for my 145 cluster and the mileage was off anyway, besides my car had already passed the high mileage point for my car.
