Those early 700R trannies aren't noted for long life. Change the fluid and hope for the best. That ZZ4 will really put it to the test, sounds like fun.

I did a ZZ4 swap into my 92 RS with a 700R4 behind it. The tranny has held up just fine for the last 1 1/2 years. I have the tranny apart now for a rebuild and there are no broken parts and the clutches and band look like they have considerable life left on them.

I never got the TV cable hooked up right tho after the install and it wouldn't downshift on its own. So I have always done manual shifting in it which might have contributed to the decent condition it is in now.

Can't speak for the older trannies like yours but it should hold up if you use some common sense.

GM included the relief valve and servo upgrades with the (no longer available) HO 350 kit, which also happened to include a ZZ4 engine.
