What should I do
I found a '91 RS with an automatic and 305 tbi. It has front end damage..I think it's just paint missing, oxidization on the rims, and other things that would devalue it a lot. The engine has got 160k on it, but has t-tops. The question is should I buy it and rebuild this engine to put it into my 89 RS, buy it and fix that one up, or not get it at all. Need some insight here, and what would one like this be worth...he wants $2500 but I think he'll go quite a bit lower....I was thinking of offering $1500. He told me he just wants to get rid of it.

offer him 1500 but 2000 is the absolute highest i'd go for it. About the engine for it, you're gonna get the classic "just get a 350" response on here.

I hear ya
I hear ya, but they're hard to find here, and they want a lot for them without a transmission. I'm talkin like $1500 without a tranny. Plus this way if i got the car I could drive it right away instead of having to do tons of work first

Stepping up to a 305 (even though it's TBI), from a 2.8... is not only a good switch, but it will give you much more of a venue to choose from in the future (aftermarket wise).
Not that you couldn't build you're current 2.8 Camaro by swapping over to a V8... but you'd be giving yourself work that's really not needed. Here you'll have a car that's already built for (and wired for) a V8.

Considering you can buy a lower mileage one that isn't a wreck for not too much more, it doesn't sound like a good deal at all.
If all you want is the engine swap "kit", the car is worth about $750-1000 to you, tops.
I would not take a high-mileage out of one car, and put it into another car. That's an ENORMOUS amount of maze you'll have to run, and very little cheese at the end. For the trouble and expense of all that, you need a bit more cheese. ANY OTHER 305 would be better. A 350 would be better still. But not a L03.
