V6->V8, Alternator?
When i had the 88 V6, i bought a 120amp alt to replace the orig one. I'm putting in an 85 305 and i'm having some issues. I had to buy the BBK underdrive pulley kit because i couldnt find any pulleys else where. Trying to get the alt pulley on, it does not fit like the original. The orig sat flush with the fan, the ne wone does not. The orig allowed for a lock nut on it, but the new one does not and does not even thread the whole way, SOOOO...... What can I do? I dont want to buy a new alt, is there somethign i can do, or is the alt safe the way it is with the new pulley not sitting flush with the fan, and the nut almost on (this sounds like a dumb *** question). This alt has 3 wires, someone else told me i need the 1 wire alt. My alt has a fan with blades, the alt for an 85 has a circular plastic type fan(?)
What should I do?

My first mistake was letting the auto part store guy put it on for me. I started to play with it, it sits flush with the fan (the fan does come off btw) and there is no prob there. BUT, the nut still does not fit on 100%, I might just need to wrench it down, i am only doing hand tightening.
But still, do i really have to get a 1 wire alt or can i make mone work? I dont see why not.

You don't "need" a one-wire alternator. I've never had any luck with them, personally.
Send me the circular plastic type fan. I've been looking for one of those for the '57.

I dont have the circular fan
sorry. I havent gotten the other alt, still have mine.
So what about the pulley then? If I put the lock washer on and tighten the nut down as far as possible, will that work? Or should I not use lock washer and tighten nut down as far as possible, or just find some other way? The alt I saw at the part store that is supposidly for the 85' (1 wire) didnt look like it had any longer of a shaft.

I'm not familiar enough with the BBK pulley, or exactly what type of mounting nuts you're talking about. Any possibility of posting pictures?
Or, maybe somebody else understands what's going on.
