ZZ4 Prom, where to buy?
I'm swapping my old 1988 305 TPI automatic for a new ZZ4 and a 5 speed.
I have upgraded the baseplate, runners and exhaust, apart from that everything else is stock.
Where can I get a prom burned for the new setup?
Basically I'm looking for plug and play, the thought of learning to burn my own proms scares the crap out of me.
Thanks if you can help!

What do you have now? The ZZ4 conversion kit PROM are still available from the dealer, but which one you use depends upon what you've got now.

I have no idea what I have now.
The car was originally a 305 auto TPI convertible.
How do I tell what the original chip was?
Do I have to get under the dash and pull it out?
What am I looking for? a date stamp, a serial number?
Please excuse my ignorance but this is my first time swapping a computer controlled engine.

My apologies, I was so focused on what I'm doing currently that I didn't thoroughly read what you were saying about yours. So, forget everything I said.
You only need to know the system you have now - year, original engine, etc. 305 TPI is most of the info, now just the year.
After that, there are a lot of outfits that will sell you a PROM. However, you probably won't be very happy with the results. You could just get a factory 350 chip for your type (such as an '87 chip if your car is '86-'89, or '90 chip if '90-'92). That would work best only if your car is the '86-'89 MAF type.
I think the majority opinion would be you'd be best served to buy the equipment and learn to burn your own. Info on doing that is available on the DIY PROM forum. You buy blanks to do your programming and keep your original so you always have a fall-back available. I don't speak from personal experience, since my carb'd setup isn't too complicated, but someday I'm going to step out and learn this stuff myself.

yeah tuning it yourself is best but some people either dont have the time right now to learn, or just dont care too cuz its too complicated. i dont have the time right now to learn but once college is out and i have a job and such, i am gonna need to learn as more performance mods will be made.
try ed wright from fastchip.com i have heard good things from him.
