l98 build up or motor swap
alrite ive been pondering on this for a few months now and was just looking to get some suggestoins from guys that actually know wat there talking about
which is more cost effective in the long run- a L98 buildup or a complete motor swap
i know if i go with the L98 i have my work cut out for me but im not really looking foranything too fast prob around low - mid 12's
i know all about tpi and its shortcomings and how if i want to make decent power its gonna need to be swapped yadda yadda yadda
but the thing that concerns me about a motor swap is the overall fitment of the motor and trying to keep it emissions legal (N.C. visual inspections) also wiring just scares the bajeezus outta me
i have a beater rite now so i dont mind taking a while to get it done right considering im gonna be buying piece by piece
thanks for the help and all -brian

If you go the swap route, you'll end up with 2 engines ..
you can get mid '12's with TPI ..
If you're worried about a visual inspection, i guess you're stuck with TPI anyways ..
you kinda answered your own question.
you can get alu vette heads *, hog out the base, get hi-flo runners, hog out the plenum, bigger TB, a hotcam or equivalent, AFPR, and a chip+tunning.
* or vortecs + base.
hope this helps

real question... do you know someone that can tune your l98 if you were to build it? i mean guarantee they can tune it...
i have yet to find anyone in my tri state area that could tune an obdI as good as gm. even the guys that do it for gm had a slight problem getting the factory ecm to keep up with a large motor.
just something to factor in.. if you plan to have real power, go dfi with a gen I.
