will an LT1 from a roadmaster or fleetwood work?
i know certain years of buick roadmasters and cadillac fleetwoods came with LT1s as the motor. where those LT1s the same as the ones in an impala ss? if not...if i got a camaro LT1 computer, intake, and heads would it run as if it was an original v8 out of a z28? has anyone thought of this before, because im going to feel dumb if theres a bunch of previous posts.

yes, they will work fine. they have cast iron heads, so they are alittle heavier, but a plus is that the heads flow a few more cfm than the aluminum ones.
the camshafts are milder than a z28 or vette, so if you want to cam them up, you will need to upgrade the springs. the spring pockets are small, so you need to open up the seat, or run springs designed for the seat. there is a b-body website (impala, etc) that give alot of info for those engines.
otherwise, they run pretty good. we put a 95 lt1 from a roadmaster into my brothers regal, with an LT4 camshaft and matching roller rockers, and I hand ground out the spring pockets to use the valvesprings. not something the everyday person can do, you can screw it up bad doing it by hand.
there has been some info on this as well, so if you need more info, use the search.

well, if you aren't changing anything at all, the only thing that you might need to change to make it work, might be the VATS system.
as far as tuning so far, I haven't done much, but then again, we really have only a few miles on it, and its now down for paint, but he can bake the tires at will, hehheh.
seriously, though, the engine swap is identical to the LT1 swap listed above, so search through that stuff.
get the b-body wiring diagrams, and figure out where it will all go, and it will work fine.

On the thought of swapping a B-Body LT1 into a third gen, I am working on that right now...(actually been working on it for like 2 years but now have a dead line to meet!)
I am hoping someone can tell me how to tell if I need to do something about the VATS or not. The motor came from an old police cruiser so the ignition key is the same as the door key and trunk key. With that type of set up, is there still a VATS used? Or were they eliminated from fleet vehicles? If I get a Painless wiring harness, will that take care of it?
Also, which is the best company to get a PCM tuned with? I have a feeling the stock Caprice tune may need to be adjusted for the changes I made (heads, cam, different vehicle....oh yeah, and displacement too).
The PCM is in my living room, the short block in the garage, the heads are on order, the tranny is still being built, and parts are coming in from all over. On top of that, my wife has me getting a baby room ready (which is cool, just time consuming) for our first baby coming in October. Sorry if I don't get on here much, I seem to be a little pressed for time.
I am looking forward to learning as much as I can on this site. I have already found an encyclopedia's worth of info!
