What do I need?
I talked to a friend of mine that has a '96 Z28 who said he is planning on doing an engine swap soon (a re-manufactured LT1). I want to get a LT1 to make a 383 stroker out of but I need to know what parts I should try to get that he may not need for his new one? I would also like to know what a good price would be?
I plan on swapping my T-5 out for a T-56 as well when I find one for the right price if that makes any difference in what I need and don't need?

If he is just giving you the old shotblock than you will need heads, intake, fuel rails, injectors, sensors, wire harness etc etc. He will be re-using those items when his new core arrives. There are many rebuild kits for the Gen II motors. 355, 383, and 396 kits are all available. These kits however are used in conjunction with the correct maching shop work required for the rebuild. There are also kits tailored for motors that don't need an overbore. You are almost better off finsing a complete used LT! that comes with all the afore mentioned parts. Prices have come down on Gen II motors and it becomes easy to nickle and dime yourself to death if you have to buy all the pieces to the puzzle.

So you think I should try to find a wrecked 4th gen Z to do a pull-out of the engine and tranny instead of buying just the block w/heads and intake from my friend?
