Need advice for a swap from TPI to carb..
I might be buying back my old '89 Camaro from my friend who bought it from me years ago and need some advice on how to go about an engine/tranny combo.. It was originally a 2.8L V6 car that was swapped to a 5.7L TPI motor, now the car is going to be a rolling shell since my other friend is taking the motor and trans out for his car. I was looking into a 350 crate motor to drop in with a carb and a 350 trans. Would there be any modifications needed for a 350 trans to bolt in or can I get a 700R4 that will work? There's a 10 bolt posi rear and it's a t-top car, what would work the best for a good easy install? Also the computer is coming out so where can I get new wiring for a carb setup? I've been out of the f-body scene for a while so I need a little help from the experts.
Thanks......!

as far as the carb is concernced, you would only need ignition power to the coil for the HEI and other misc wires for the sensors. Everything else for the engine can go. You will just have to splice the sensors to the correct pin at the junctio block next to the brake booster. The TH350 will work but you will have to modify the driveshaft and crossmember, if it hasn't already been done. A 700R4 will also work , but you will need a mechanical speedo (if equipped) and a TCC lockup kit. You will want to stay away from the tall intakes (RPM air gap) as they may not clear the hood. A strong small block with a good flowing top end will be great with whatever trans you decide to go with, as long as you build the trans to suit what you will be doing to it.

The TH700 will have to come from a 2wd application. If not a 3rd gen f-body, it will have to have the tailshaft housing changed to supply the torque arm mount, or you'll need to get the Spohn crossmember & torque arm that move it from the transmission to the crossmember.

You will also need to modify the fuel supply. Either use the factory in-tank electric fuel pump with a return-style regulator, or take the in-tank out and use an engine-mounted mechanical or aftermarket in-line electric.

Thanks for all the replies, not sure if I'll end up getting the car back but I will post the progress if it happens.
