im thinking about puting a 427 big block (100$ for the block) in my camaro what would i have to modify to fit it in? (this is going from a 2.8 v6 to a big block)

Also how nuts is it gonna be to drive lol ,and what outher parts do you think i should get besides the ones listed on the last page of my cardomain (this is a basic block with nothing else with it so i need every thing)?

Oh ***, I have thought about doing this, but I guess our cars are only good up to 400-500 ft/lbs of torque. Our unibodys basicly dont have any frame, so alot of torque will twist the body. Im not sure of the exact number for the torque that our bodys can take, and would like to know myself, but I know that you cant have a wicked sick Big Block in a 3rd Gen without some heavy modification

might as well post in here till a mod moves it lol but i have a friend that builds race cars/sprint cars and so on so i can basicly build the motor for free and olny cost me for the parts he had a 87 camaro with a 427 in it it held up fine with the stuff he modified and hes crazy

You can have high torque motors in third gens. You will need to put in subframe connectors tho, and possibly a role cage depending on how radical this motor is. You might still have some flex in body, but i doubt there is any car that dosent flex alittle if a nice big block is in it (except maby the tube chasie cars).

I dont know the numbers, infact every car is diff so i dont think there is a set numbers. All i know is i dont want to take a chance twisting a car that i spent alot of money and time building. I will have a cage and sfc's in a 305 car, because i have plans for it later and that is not something i want to have to wory about.

well ive desided against the bbc and im sticking with a 383 know know ne one with on of them in there 3rd gen im basicly starting with the same thing as you did 2.8 v6 to a 383 :P

my dad has a 396 bored out alittle bit. Its out of a 70 SS chevelle. He really wants to put it into a car, preferably a 1st gen camaro or 68-70 chevelle but we all know that even rust buckets are around 10 grand. I keep trying to convince him that a 3rd gen is the way to go, but i dont even know if it would work?

I assume the 396 would fit, but exactly how much modification are we talking about. Also, if we give it a cat, will it pass emissions?

BTW, this wouldnt go in my car...if we were to do this, we would buy another 3rd gen specifically for this project.

I know I'm a lil late on this, but I had a coupla questions/comments.

First, Brad_26, could you maybe see about hookin' me up with that block?? Maybe see how much shipping to 60018 is, so I can figure out if it'll even be worth it right now...

Second, A Mack6, there are guys on here with a 400 SBC, so I'm sure your 396 will be just fine

If one certain BB were burned into my mind as being the s--- for a BB 3rdgen... it would be QwkTrip's 'bird...

I have ran a 468 w/alky injection and a glide. 1985 trans am. We had it on 110 and Nitrous, switched over to alky and let it eat. Car ran low 9's, not terrible for a "stock" car.

i'd pick that 427 up in a heartbeat if it were me. 100$ 427 would be sweet. As for to much torque for these cars i think that's bs no offense, there are countless people running that much power and beating the hell out of there cars without problems.

go 427 every1 has a 383! J/k do as you like just figured i'd add my 2 cents

Even if you dont go big block, you should pick the motor up. You could always sell it for more.

my dad has got a big block chevy in his 1987 camaro and its bin bored out to 8 litres an goes like holy crap. it's VERY VERY hard to keep it in a straight line though but at 140mph it can still wheelspin.

Here is the project im building.... All billet forged internals, 88mm turbo, 200 shot nitrous, all in a 95 Mustang. We will be bringing this up to d-town for sure...

Part of my extensive prep on it (engine/trans will be the last thing I worry about) will include setting up twin intercoolers, like has been shown here on TGO (facing ground instead of forward like Camaro's, etc), but I'm wondering if the engine compartment will have enough room - BTW, I plan on doing a tube front end and moving the firewall back 6" or so to put the engine further back for better weight distribution and space.

Yeah, search for a gentleman here with a single turbo in a big block. Using stock hood and everything. He lives overseas and is very very impressive. I would love to do that someday, which probly will using 2 t-70's from masterpower.... 2 nice cheap wastegates from e-bay and a intercooler from precision, i have myself a 1300 hp daily driver
