4l60e and LS1?
HI:
One of my projects I have going is installing an LS1 with an auto trans in an old Hot rod. The transmission shop sold me a 4l60e, but, the torque converter won't bolt up to my flex plate.
I believe I've read the LS1 requires a 4l65e..
1- is there any way to successfully use the 4l60e trans with the LS1? (certain torque converter to purchase, modify the flex plate, etc?)
fortunately my needs are essentially stock. Looking for long term reliability.
2- will the wiring work between the 4l60e and 4l65e? I have purchased a painless wiring kit for engine management. I don't know if the connectors would be the same, management controls same or different, etc?
any suggestions or advice?
Thanks,
-BV

Ok, that sounds like good news.
Do you know the proper torque converter and flex plate part #'s?
My torque converter and flex plate do not match. When I attempt to bolt it together, it can't center because the bolt holes do not align.
My flex plate came striaght from the GM parts counter for a camaro flex plate, and the torque converter is from the transmission shop.
The other text I made is later taking the flex plate to the dealership and we aligned it with a torque converter from a 4l65e trans, and it aligned perfectly.
So, maybe I don't have the proper flex plate for a 4l60e/ LS1??

4L60E
I can't offer a lot of insight here but I just had to replace a front pump on my 4L60E and learned a little more about this. When I picked up the new pump the box said 4L65E on the side so I questioned this. Evidently there are three or four different front pumps available for the 4L60E and a couple of different torque convertors. Some of these parts show they are for a 4L65E even though to the best of my knowledge there is no such transmission. Pumps can be PWM or not, have a lip or not and I think one had fewer than 13 vanes. They showed me the torque converters too and one has a longer snout on it. I think you need to make sure that the other parts (converter/flexplate) match up to the particular year 4L60E you have. Check your flexplate/converter spacing too (before bolting up) if the engine and transmission are different year models. You may need to put a washer between them (each bolt hole) if there's to much of a gap.
I got my new pump from a local DACCO and the counter person seemed to know their stuff when it came to these transmissions. You might check to see if you have one nearby and see if they can help you get the right parts.

Here's a stock convertor and flexplate out of a 2000 z28. The center of the holes are 9 5/8" apart. Both are for sale at a reasonable price if needed. You have made sure the tranny bolts to the LS1 right? There are different 4l60e bell housings.

Forgot the Bell Housing Part
Shr00m is right on the bell housing and I had forgotten that piece. It's either a one piece case or bolt on housing.
Pieces he posted pictures of look like the ones I have too. Notice the flexplate is a different style than the one you posted.

Hi Kevin:
Yes, the transmission is a one piece cast bellhousing, and yes, does fit/ bolt onto the LS1 engine.
Will the torque converter work on the 4l60e? I was told the input shaft on the 4l65 and 4l60 are different and torque converters between the 2 transmissions are not interchangable. (something about them sealing differently)
Of course, I don't have working pieces, I hear different things from different people so my basis of facts on this are sketchy at best. At the moment I don't know anything or what works with what...
If it'll work I am interested. I'll pm you my info. Thank you
