if you eliminate ECM control and have an overdrive auto tranny, you will have to make provision for the torque converter clutch lock-up.

There are a number of ways to do it. You can install a manual switch, or several companies make kits to do it automatically. If you want you can build your own kit for automatic operation with a handful of GM parts. A search on the transmission forum should turn up all sorts of information.
