starting a new swap

i recently inherited a 350 4 bolt main from a 74 nova. I was just wondering if there was anything specific, being its an older motor, to get it to work with my 92 rs. any info about swapping the older motor into this car would be greatly appreciated.

Are you planning on running carb, tbi, fuel injection? What camshaft and lifters are you planning on running? Are you going to have it rebuilt or just drop it in? That block was not designed for roller lifters, but there are ways of getting around that.

running a carb and i have no idea about camshaft or lifters, open for suggestions with reason on that too im rather new to building up a motor.

The flexplate/flywheel (automatic or manual transmission, respectively) will be different because the '92 has a one-piece rear main seal and the '74 is 2-piece.

The dipstick on the '74 is on the driver's side. The stock manifolds get in the way of the older engine dipstick tube. Easiest way to solve that is by getting headers.

The '74 heads are about as poor an effort as the factory ever made. Consider something else if any kind of performance is desired. Ported 305 heads (not your LO3 heads), L98 heads, aftermarket replacement heads - most anything will be better.

The Comp Extreme Energy (XE) cam series are pretty good. Something like an XE262 with appropriate valve springs will give excellant street performance.
