Welcome to my Nightmare Advice Please!!!!

Ok so I wanted to built a Knight Rider car and found a good deal on an 84 Trans am so I bought it It has the 305HO witha Brand new Elderbrock Carb 650cfm electric choke so the guy I bought it off of bought it to fix up found out the head was cracked rebuilt the motor and put on a new head showed me reciepts for everything block was tanked bored 0.30 over the whole 9 yards unfortinatly he ran out of money and basically just threw the motor back in only hooking up enough electric to get it running(not very good by the way) but I didn't care because I knew I had alot of wiring to do for the conversion.

So here is the problem most of the electric connections sat on the exhaust or other hot areas and melted I have gutted the interior and yanked the motor(found the EGR just laying behind the motor not attached to anything)

Is it possible to take this motor and go back to the basics I'm considering running a Vaccum advance distributor that is not controled by a computer just going old school on the motor removing all sensors only running vaccuum for the advance and brake but can it be done? or does someone have a better Idea? I know I'll lose HP but its a 305 and besides it would look real clean under there with no wires any advice would be appreciated

David H. called and wants his keys back.

You can go "back to basics" or you can hit a JY and get the parts you need to get your car back the way it should be. The HO will likely be one of the most sought after 3rd gens, please consider saving one.

Yea you can do it...I did. I can name every wire under the hood right off the top of my head. You will need to keep SOME of them tho. Such as...windshield wiper motor, power to dist., tach wire (if you have a tach), alternator wire (charge, jumper, and idiot-light), battery wires (duh), horn, power to computer (I have this one because I kept the computer, but it is only connected to the tranny so I still have the lockup), blower motor and resistor wires, and all sending units like oil pressure and temp. But thats all the wires under there for my car. That and a few heater hoses, radiator hoses, and 3 vacuum lines. If you dont know what a 3rdgen looks like under the hood, you'd never know my car was 1 if you only saw the engine.
EDIT: The 2 top pics. are the most recent ones...and it was a 305, but its a 355 now, just in case you cared, lol.

Please please PLEASE do not sacrifice another Trans Am to Knight Rider. I liked the show and all, but it was just a tv show. These Trans Ams are become more and more rare each day. Besides, most people that try to make Kitt never don’t have the funds or run out of money, and then the car is ruined PLEASE DON’T DO IT!!!!!
