I was looking into a crate motor and was wondering why it says 85 and before

We need more info dude... what kinda crate motor? Alot specify 87 and below due to centerbolt heads and 1 piece RMS

It has a two-piece rear main seal, flat-tappet cam, perimeter bolt valve covers, and all intake manifold mount bolts are at the same angle.

'86 had one-piece rear main seal, '87-up had that and roller tappet cam, center-bolt valve covers, and the center two intake manifold mount bolts were at 72 degrees instead of 90 degrees.

All you would have to do to put that engine in your car is get a 153-tooth flywheel for '83-'85 application.
