Car: 87 trans am WS6
Engine: 305 TPI
Somebody please help me!
Ive got an 87 trans am. When i first got the car a few months ago on the undersection of the hood it said 5.0, 305 so i assumed thats what it was. Last night i was puttin a new battery in and i noticed some small writing on anote under the original number, it said 350-18436572. I know the car was originaly a 305 but i cant figure out if the moter was swopped to a 350 or not because i cant see the id number on the engine. The stock exhaust also sounds alot louder than a 305 engine. Can anybody help me or give me some info? I Really have no idea and dont have the tools to take the engine out because my dads garage is being rebiult. Thanks

you are just going to have to find the casting numbers. Pull the alternator and look for the number on front of the engine beside the water pump, it should match the last 6 digits of you VIN if it is the original engine. The best place to look is behind the driver side cylinder head and get the casting number of the block. there is no other real way to ID your engine. You can find more details on where to find you casting numbers at
