Probably cost close to 500 for just the machining, def. a good buy.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Why is it for sale in the first place? The starter and flex plate still on it? Cam still in it?

Watch out for blocks with The Problem that involves the starter bolt holes, where they're too far from the crank and the starter grinds and can't ever be made to work right; or ones with The Other Problem where the lifter bores don't point at the cam lobes and it eats cams.

Engines for WAY TOO CHEAP for what they appear to be, ESPECIALLY after they've been run for a short while, often are only for sale because of one of those things. Not always of course; but uncomfortably often. If they were brand-new never run, the PO wouldn't know about anything being wrong with them, and wouldn't be selling them for pennies on the dollar in the first place; and if they had LOTS of miles on them, then you can assume that they gave good long-term service. It's those ones in between that you gotta watch out for. Been run long enough for the owner to know it's unrepairably hosed but no more.

Yellow flag. Why is it now in short block form with so few miles on it?

Prolly wanted to keep the heads and such for a different, possibly larger engine. He said it's his buddy selling it so i wouldn't assume that he's gonna get screwed on it.
