Dealership or local shop?

Going this week to have my 88 Camaro fine tuned on a Sunpro. Since I removed the 305 and installed a 350, I have it as close as I can get it by ear. I would like to get it running as smooth as possible.

I would like some opinions on whether I should take to a chevy dealership or to a local shop w/ a sunpro.

Anyone?

Kevin

Dealership won't touch it.

You do the math from there.

The guy at the dealership told me to bring it by. That it would cost $75 to hook it up and check it out. I told him it was restoration project. Why do you say they won't touch it? Because of emission related issues?

Because you've changed it from stock.

Most dealers don't like working on cars more than 7 years old, either.

Small town dealers might be more willing to work with you. Or, if they want to maintain friendly relationships with the performance crowd.

Exactly...

What they'll do, is maybe hook it up to something, which won't tell them anything of any value because they'll input the car's VIN into their "system" and the "machine" or whatever will be confused, and you'll get a bunch of garbage if anything at all; and they'll charge you $75 anyway because they hooked it up.

The dealership is the place to take a STOCK, unmodified, relatively new car. They are incapable of dealing with old or modded ones because that's not their business. Alot of them have rules that the service dept is supposed to refuse to accept a car under any circumstances, if they detect that it has been visibly altered. They have liability issues that far exceed the pennies they'll make off of you.
