iroc body dead, drivetrain still kickin'
My iroc got totalled.. the L98 and the 3 week fresh 700r-4 (rebuilt) are in awesome shape. My buddy has a non-running 86 iroc but i believe its TBI.. I want to swap my car's interior (really, really clean) and my car's drivetrain into his. I know I will need to also swap fuel pumps. Throttle cable?
Seeing as I already have the speed density ECM (1990 iroc..) and harness, I'm just puzzled about what I might run into when it comes to the interior harness and other things I should know.. I am also swapping my guage cluster and dash.. since 1990-92 cars have it different from earlier cars. [can i just pull out my entire dash and put it in the 86?]
I am considering and aftermarket harness just for piece of mind but my harness is still in good shape.. any suggestions? Any help/cristicism welcome.
Thanks in advance..

Sorry to hear about your 90, glad you have a buddy with a donor body though! I can't help with the wiring details with TBI vs TPI in the interior, but I will say this: Take a lot of pictures and label the wires with something like masking tape and a magic marker...just in case you get delayed a bit in putting it back together, you won't have to scratch your head too much wondering where to put stuff.

i'd say if you take your time and swap entire harnesses it might take time, but it should make things run a lot smoother

No TBI in '86. '88-later only. Unless you count crossfire.
'86 is either carb or TPI.
You can pull out all of the interior and put in your '90 stuff. You might run into some connector differences, say from the dash to rear chassis. But, you're basically talking about doing what I did, except it was '86 stuff into an '82.

two totally different cars its going to be a matter of swapping everything, wiring, and all
i assume you are very mechanically inclined and have a shop full of tools and a shop too
youre going to need it
youd be really better off leaving the 86 as a carb powered car,
or youll have to drop the tank and swap the sending units and so on to convert the car to fuel injection
but if the 86 is tpi then it may not be so involved,
if you plan on running fuel injection anyways
good luck

Seriously? Swapping that engine over will be a 2 week job and he can do it in his garage with a good set of hand tools a floor jack and a cherry picker.
I just finished my LT1 swap into my TBI 92 camaro. Talk about completely different cars. This took me a total of 2 weeks and rewired everything for the engine management. Swapped a 4th gen gas tank, rear end, and drive shaft. I also took the 3.08's out of my rs to put in place of 2.7*'s in the 4th gen rear.
The only part I really see being hard about this swap. (assuming they are both auto's) is cutting holes for the bulk head connectors (assuming they aren't there) and fitting fuel lines. But he has everything from the old car.
shouldn't even need to cut anywires. just pull all the carpet unhook the wiring at the C-Connectors and pull the harness out. The C-Connector in the kick panel would be the only difficult one.
BUT maybe I'm missing something here. So please let me know if I drasticly over looked something.

Shouldn't need to cut anything. But, there will be a lot of harnesses to change out, that's all.
If the '86 is carb'd, the in-tank fuel pump wiring for the L98 will be one thing that won't be straight-forward. Otherwise, it's just a matter of removing one and putting in the other.
