Re: lt1 motor with old style tpi

You would choke the motor down very bad with putting the TPI system on an LT1, best thing to do is keep the LT1 with the correct intake. Since LT1's came with 6-speeds, just use the stock flywheel or correct aftermarket for an LT1.

Re: lt1 motor with old style tpi

well here it is project one 88 gmc dually im putting a tpi ie 89 mass air tpi in it i was wanting to go with a 383 good for tq but i have a 60,000 mile lt1 motor just sitting well the lt1 motors are good motors but the lt1 intake i have been told because of the short runners tq is down but hp is up well this is a dually pulling a trailer is its job i would rather have the tq and give up a little hp plus i already have a painless wiring kit for a tpi and a 89 tpi intake with brand new mass air, injectors, etc ? just thinking
PROJECT 2: is my 89 iroc L98 motor im putting the six speed in it i was just wandering if the lt1 flywheel would throw my balance off ie the front balancer is different for the two motors

Re: lt1 motor with old style tpi

L98 rated at 225-245hp and 330-345ft lb torque

The 93-95 F-bodies were rated at 275 hp and 325 ft·lb while the 96-97 cars were rated at 285 hp and 335 ft·lb

Putting a TPI setup on an LT1 would drop the HP down to about where an L98 is at and probably hurt the torque also.

Re: lt1 motor with old style tpi

The intake setup is the whole beauty of the LT1 engine... yes theres the aluminum heads and reverse cooling, but really, the intake system is what makes it so much better than the TPI setup. Keep the LT1 intake.
