Another swap question

Guys, I just joined up and have searched this a bit, learned some things but... I have a 91 Z w/ 305 TPI with high milage. I am searching for a 350 crate engine which the TPI will still work. So far, the ones I have found have a statement such as "not smog legal" or "not for FI use". Why can't I get something like the 350/330 w/o the intake/exhaust, and bolt my existing intake and all of the sensors to it?

Re: Another swap question

first you need the new motor to have the same style heads for the intake to work but my best guess would be because of the cam it cames with

Re: Another swap question

This is exactly what I was wondering. Can I put a built engine in my 91 ? What sort of mods need to be done to the Fuel system ? Are these easy questions or is it all trail and error.I imagine this has been done countless times over the years so there must be a guide somewhere for a baseline as far as proper cam specs, timing, fuel pressure and what have you.Maybe theres a good shop with experience in this type of swap?
