ls1???????
I got this car a couple of months ago. it is a 1989 Iroc with the LO3, and yes it is an LO3 not LB9. I really would want to do an ls1 swap. I have never done a swap before but my dad knows enough about cars along with my grandpa to do one. I know we could do a simple 350 swap, but do you think we could do a ls1 swap or a 5.3L vortec truck engine swap. i just want to know the level of dificulty and how much experience is necessary.

Read the LS1 sticky in the top section of this forum.
It is much more involved than a 350 swap. But, if you have basic mechanical understanding, pay attention to detail and study up before you dig in, you can do it even if you haven't done a swap before.

Re: ls1???????
Not doubting your dad or grandpa's ability AT ALL... Just be aware that the kind of engine building/mechanics that your grandpa knows are going to be alittle different with the newer motors. Yes its a pushrod v8...but there are tons of little quirks and things that you will need to research on because the old school knowledge doesnt apply.
That being said, phyiscally swapping in the motor is so freaking easy a trained monkey can do it. All the swap parts are available. Mounts, crossmember and its in.
Then the details start to haunt you. Headers, exhaust, fuel hook up, cooling system, and probably the most intimidating...wiring.
If you do some searching, and there is PLENTY of info here and on ls1tech.com, you will get a better understanding of what needs to be done. There are lots and lots of threads and I feel confident in saying at this point that there isnt one question you can come up with that isnt already answered in the stickys and other threads.
Good luck with your decision! And hey...you can always go carbed on the LS1 and make great power and skip the wiring thing!
