ECM/PCM questions

I am planning on doing the LT1 swap into my 92 RS and most of my questions have been answered (thanks to this site). Now I ran into one more question. I am not sure exactly what year motor I am going to get yet, or out of what car (vette, f-body, impala, caprice...), but either way I want to tune the computer to be like a 92-96 vette chip. So I know there is ECM and PCM, but I am not sure if both can be tuned the way I want. Also, I have a 5 speed transmission, does it matter if the chip I get is out of a manual transmission car or can it be a chip from an automatic. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. When I get the motor, I plan on just changing the cam to the hot cam so that will be the only major mod other than the computer tuning. Also, how much can I expect to spend on the chip tuning?

Re: ECM/PCM questions

'93 used a replaceable chip. '94-95 were flash reprogramed OBD1. '96-97 were flash reprogrammable OBD2. An automatic tune will set codes in a manual transmission equiped car. You are going to have VSS sensor issues with your 5-speed but can tuned out of your PCM.
Opinion: 95's have some minor improvements over earlier engines and the OBD1 PCM is less finicky in swaps than the later OBD2's.
