too many decisions....

ok well idk i guess a few of you have seen my other post about putting the nissan rb26dett in a camaro...yes i got flamed...yes you all had every reason too....ive decidedd better and i think im jsut gonna stick simpler for my first swap. maybe that's something i can do later. anyway. i want something with alot of get up and go. im not do much into having oodles and oodles of power. but back to this. ive come down to 3 main choices as 350, lt1, or an ls1. but is one honestly better then the other?? and if i go with the 350 is carb or fi better? ugh. idk throw out some ideas please. im not so much worried about money. this will be one of those peice it together projects. just tak it one part at a time you know? but yeah. ive also seen many other post and i know from cheapest to most expensive is the 350,lt1,ls1 but id really like it to be versitial and upgradeable. once again thankz for the imput.

If you want a piece-at-a-time project, the 350 would probably be the best. The others are more all-or-nothing swaps.

Re: too many decisions....

well i also have another ?. in all of these ls1 swaps everyone seems to be putting a t56 behind them. is it not possible to put a 4 speed behind it? the only reason i ask is becasue my uncle has a chevy nova he used to drag with when i was younger and it had a bored over 350 and a 4 speed behind it. its it jsut not as effective or what? sorry. i havent really figured all this crap out yet. jsut please dont call me and idiot and flame me non stop. i just want help.

Re: too many decisions....

Older "4 speed" manuals arent designed for newer cars like a thirdgen, thirdgens are better suited to a transmission with a hydraulic clutch, most 4 speeds would use a manual clutch activated by pushrod / z bar, you could possibly adapt one, by getting the parts from an 82 with that setup, or convert to an aftermarket hydraulic throwout bearing, however you are going to spend a lot of money trying to lose a gear or two compared to a T5 or T56.

Using a 4 speed manual, your 4th gear is 1:1, a T5 is .83 or less so you can run a numerically higher rear gear and still have the same or lower cruise rpm, a T56 makes this even more noticable with a .76 5th and .50 6th gear, the overdrive also results in better fuel mileage.
