Got a question about my Cyl. Heads???

Not too sure which section this should be in, so I put it here since it's part ofthe swap??

I am using the Edelbrock E-Tech 200 heads which are the vortec style. I have had these heads on my motor for the last 2 seasons and this time around I am using them in the camaro I got, problem I think I'm going to have is I want to run a Hooker Y-Pipe but have been told that it wont fit correctley due to the fact that the exhaust ports are a bit higher than stock heads..... this is what it says on the edelbrock website "Exhaust port exits are .200" higher than standard heads "

Will this make a difference in the clearence that much??
I'm worried about clearing the oil pan and starter, but I got a mini already, so it might not be a HUGE problem??? I have always just used custom exhaust, but wanted to go an easier route this time, but I might have screwed myself?

.200" is about the height of a line of text on this page.

What do you think? Are all of your parts REALLY that tight of a fit?

And, did they move the BOLT HOLES (which determine where the headers live in relation to the motor) or just the PORTS (the big holes the exhaust comes out of)?

I'm thinking, probably not.

Re: Got a question about my Cyl. Heads???

I have heard things BOTH ways as to if it will fit or not?

I honestley did not think less than 1/4" would make a huge difference, but some people who have done this said they ran into exhaust issues.

If need be, I can just have a y-pipe custom made, but I would preffer to just use the $200 one from hooker......

Anyone done this swap???

Re: Got a question about my Cyl. Heads???

Are your headers off right now? If they are, take a picture of the exhaust ports and post them up, so we can see them.

The GMPP 'Fastburn' heads (also Vortec style heads, coincidentally) have been known to have issues with certain headers because they raised the exhaust ports, but didn't raise the bolt holes as well, so only certain headers work properly on those heads. You may or may not have a similar issue with the E-Tec 200s.

Pictures are worth 1000 words right? Take pics and post them up.

EDIT - I checked Edelbrock's website, and found no pics of the exhuaust ports on those heads. We'll probably need pics from you to determine what should be done.
