big cube sbc vs bbc
Hey all,
I'm looking for some advice when it comes to an engine swap i'm planing when i graduate from college.
First off, this will need to be on the cheaper side (money is a factor)
I'd like to see mid 12's, retain streetability, pump gass. This car will be a weekend street warrior and I want retain great handling.
So the question, 406 or bbc
i'm leaning towards a 406 with vortec heads/intake just because it would be a much easier swap. what do you guys think and would my goal be easily reached?

Re: big cube sbc vs bbc
you can do 12's with mild mods on a 355 with vortec heads/intake. I dont think you really need the bigger motors for those goals
smaller motor will generally be better on gas, cheaper than the 400 block, and still make enough power for you to go 12s on motor on street tires if you want.
I'm building a 383 and its gonna be a street/strip car looking for mid 11's on motor and still handle great when i set it up to handle

Re: big cube sbc vs bbc
If you're trying to do it cheap then a BBC isn't a choice for a third gen. Although the swap isn't that hard to do, there are a lot of other things that start to add up such as headers and exhaust.
