motor swap computer question
motor swap computer question
I have an 87 camaro. The guy that had it before me took the fuel injection off and put a carb on there and has the computer ran to a coil which is ran to the distributor(duh). Anyways, im still in my learning stages so...im taking this motor out and putting in a 383. I was told i dont need the computer at all but dont i need it for my tranny?(700r4)I would love to get rid of it completely...So my question is..is there a way to get rid of it or rid of most of it?

Yes, pretty much now the computer is brain dead. It isn't doing anything for the transmission now (it only locks the torque converter clutch, it doesn't control shifts).
You may have to make provision for the fuel pump to operate.
The other issue is TCC lock-up - there are many, many threads about TCC lock-up without the computer. Search the Transmission/Drivetrain forum.
Also, the throttle valve (TV) is very sensitive to proper geometry. Make sure the carburetor has a "corrector bracket" for TH700R-4 on the throttle arm.
