Fuel pump question.

Quick question, I am tearing apart my old 85 lg4 camaro and swapping in an L98. Was wondering if i had to rewire any of the in car wires running from under the dash to the fuel pump. Or are these cars set up for FI and the pump wires are just dead on LG4s? I can see that there is 3 wires going thru the metal behind the back seat and i cant figure out what the 3rd wire could be for otherwise...
Thanks for the help.

My '86 donor didn't have any of the fuel pump wiring.

Re: Fuel pump question.

Now are you talking about outside of the car or inside? Im talking about the wires inside of the car just under the carpet behind the backseat. There are three wires in mine and i know mine is a mechanical fuel pump. The sender might not have 3 wires coming out of it but does what it plugs into have space for three wires? Sorry to be a pain. Im gonna be dropping the tank soon to put in the FI sender and pump and i guess i can find out then if theres a dead wire/socket in the sender's connector.

Re: Fuel pump question.

My 87 type LT had an LG4 in it when i bought it and when I back-halved it I had to take the gas tank out. Low and behold it had an electric fuel pump in it already. now I'm pretty sure in 87 only MPFI was available on these cars so I would think that pump had to be for that setup. I would think from a production standpoint it would have been more cost effective to do it that way since the carb cars only required a change in the engine bay for the mechanical pump.

'87 had the in-tank electric regardless of induction, including carb.

I know my '86 didn't have the dash/fuse box wiring for the electric pump, but I didn't look carefully at the chassis wiring. The car had been rear-ended, and was a complete mess back by the fuel tank, so I didn't do anything with that part of the car. I don't recall any extra wiring from the dash to chassis, either, and I used the '86 dash in its entirety.

I can try to look at the '82 to see if the wires are there by the back seat, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I'll be dropping the tank in Berlinetta #2 hopefully sometime in the near future, but you may get to yours before I get to mine.

Re: Fuel pump question.

Alright guys, thanks for your replies. I'm just hoping that GM decided to just put the electric fuel pump in fore the heck of it. That would make life easier but then id have to find something to do with the FI sender that i already bought. ah well, don't look a gift horse in the mouth right?
