SBC TPI OIL PUMP PICKUP
SBC TPI OIL PUMP PICKUP
How do you install the new oil pump pickup into the oil pump on this engine? The tube would bend if you tried to press it in and you cant seem to push it in. I do not see any kind of a retaining clip that needs to be removed. PLEASE HELP! If you could PM me with the answer I would be much appreciated.

Re: SBC TPI OIL PUMP PICKUP
They press in, the tube is stronger than it looks. Try heating the pump a little if it's giving you trouble. If you still can't get it all the way in, but you can get it started, put the pump in a vise, find the smallest open end wrench that will fit around the tube just above the flared part where it goes into the pump, and hit the wrench with a hammer to tap it in.
Once you've got it in and you've set the height of the pickup above the bottom of the oil pan, tack weld or braze the pickup to the pump body to make sure it doesn't fall of as they often do otherwise.
