L03 to carb'd

Hey, I have a quick question about the L03. Swapping an L03 out of a '90 Caprice 9C1 into a friends '80 Cutlass. My big concern at the moment is does the L03 cam have provisions to run a mechanical fuel pump (since it's a TBI engine)? Do I just change the block off plate with the one off his stock 305 and bolt a fuel pump to it and go? Or am I going to run into other problems

My other question is we would like to retain his stock bracketry. I'm pretty sure the water pumps are different, but will changing the water pump to the older style interfere the newer style timing cover? Are the harmonic dampers the same as well?

Anyone else done this swap and have any tips?

Thanks,
morgsie

Im pretty sure you have to pull the timing cover to install the parts for the mechanical pump. I would just pick up a cheap inline pump and regulator.

Long vs short? I couldnt tell ya if it'll work, I doubt it, just do some measuring.

Harmonic damper shouldnt matter. I would just leave it on the motor.

You don't have to pull the timing cover to install the fuel pump push rod. The only question is whether the block has been drilled/machined for it, and if the cam has the lobe for it - I've heard people that have seen them machined/not machined, with/without the lobe. Only way to know for sure is to check.

Timing covers won't interfere with the water pump, but many different dampers and timing tabs have been used. The LO3 damper and timing tab shouldn't have any problem with the older water pump/accessories.

Re: L03 to carb'd

I pulled the L03 from my 90 Formula and put it in my 87 Formula. I took the plate off and there were provisions for the fuel pump so I took the parts from the LG4 I took out of the 87 and put them on the L03. Works great.
