1991 305TPI swap HELP

Hello guys,
I'm a new member, but have been reading threads for about a year now, GREAT INFO here.
I have a 91 305 TPI and am concidering swapping for a 87 350 TPI. The 350 is complete with wiring and computer.
If I swap out engines and put the intake and plenum from the 305 onto the 350, is the only thing I have to change the injectors and computer?
Thanks for any help out there

Re: 1991 305TPI swap HELP

This probably belongs in the TPI section rather than here in engine swap, but the '87s used a ninth injector, for cold start, while your car didn't. Also, the '87s used a Mass Air Flow Sensor, while yours didn't. For legality, you need to get a '91 350 PROM chip for your computer, and sell the '87 computer. Also, if your car is the RS, it doesn't have the same exhaust system as the TPI 305 Z28, and that'll sure limit the power of the 350.

Re: 1991 305TPI swap HELP

use all the 91 TPI equipment, except the injectors either use the ones for the 350 or get new ones(highly recommended) and get a custom chip burn which you need. It will also be cheaper then buying a new memcal for a 91 350 TPI if you could find one.

Thanks guys,
so instead of buying a 87 350 for 2500, I'd be better off just building up a 350 and using all my parts off the 91, cause I'll have to change that much anyhow. Correct?
thanks again

Not necessarily. You could buy the complete '87 engine, put the '91 stuff on the 350 longblock (except use the 350 injectors and knock sensor), and sell off the '87 TPI equipment.

$2500 is a lot of money to pay for an '87 TPI 350, though. About twice what you should have to pay, I'd say.

I agree $2500 isw high for a 87 350TPI. I just got a 91 L98 350 TPI from a corvette for around $1600 for everything. Check a place called F-Parts on E-bay. They are good to deal with.
