87 LG4 to 383 swap questions

Okay so I am sick of the silly stuff I keep doing to try and get power out of my 87 LG4 with M5 tranny. I just want to put a motor with power in. I am hesitant at this point because I want to do it in one shot. I hate having to order more parts. Heres my dilemma. Jegs has a Blueprint 383 with iron heads pushing about 400 horse. http://www.jegs.com/p/Blueprint+Engines/761056/10002/-1 It has a 1 piece rear main seal. I want to know if when this shows up on my doorstep am I going to go crazy looking for extra parts to make it fit? I want to pop and swap if possible, but I want to do it right. Any one think I can do this and keep my A/C? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

That engine is externally balanced, so you'll need an externally balanced flywheel and damper.

What do you have for exhaust?

Are you planning on keeping your LG4 carb and distributor? If so, you'll need a spreadbore Vortec intake manifold.

keeping your A/c won't be any trouble at all.

Re: 87 LG4 to 383 swap questions

Is that all I will need? I mean major stuff at least. Hoses wires etc I can get at Autozone. I have a Flowmaster 4 in exhaust and a set of flowmaster shortie headers. As for carb and distributor those went in the trash a while ago. Ive got an edelbrock 4150 carb and edelbrock intake manifold. MSD distributor. I'm probably going to go with the dressed engine kit the have though so I won't have to worry about that.

Edelbrock 4150 carb? Do you mean Holley 4150?

Never heard of Flowmaster headers, either. Do you mean Flowtech?

I just can't get into Edelbrock carbs. That's the main reason I wouldn't go with the dressed version. That plus $1000 for things that either aren't necessary or aren't as good as what you should get.

Sorry to hear about what you did with the original carb and distributor. Best street performance carb/ignition system available, bar none.

You are correct five7. Edelbrock 1405 carb and flowtech headers. I just want to know that everything will fit when it comes. No fussing around. It may not be the best performance, but If I can even get 325-350 horse at the wheels, that will beat my dynoed 136. That's right 136... with the mods. As for the stock carb and distributor, when I say in the trash I really mean under my stairs in a box. I don't really car about street performance. I've got a motorcycle to take through the twisties. I just wanna go fast in a straight line.

Okay, in that case, get a Holley carburetor and better headers. Flowtechs are 1-1/2" primaries, fine for a 305 or low-RPM torquey 350, but death to power. Doubt you'll get 350 flywheel with that combo.
