gave up 305 build

So i was about to get my lb9 305 beefed up but everyday theres more and more about how much better a 350 is now i have vortec 906 heads and comp cam xe 262 k12-238-2 kit and vortec edelbrock tpi intake and 1.6 full roller self align magnum rockers. since the motor is off the car as i was about to install all these parts in im finding cheaper 350 engines so now im thinking i might as well get the 350 and i have to delay my build for a while i am just so anxious to get this car running anybody got any ideas for a cheap 350? should i get one from a thirdgen camaro or will any do as good? btw i have picture of my 86 thirgen in album check it out good condition

It doesn't have to be from a 3rd gen Camaro. Anything '86-up will be fine. Since you already have a cam you're going to use, it wouldn't even have to be '86-up. '80-up would have the dipstick on the passenger side like your 305, but '85-earlier you'd need a new flexplate/flywheel.

If you're thinking new, the L31 shortblock from GM is an excellent choice.

Re: gave up 305 build

Sure, you can do a 383 stroker, and at this point it might be the best idea. The stock 700R-4s aren't terribly strong, and if yours is gonna fail, it's gonna fail whether you go 350 or 383. But a well-built 700, like a level 2 from BowTieOverdrives, will last behind a 383. Get a level 3 if you're thinking about nitrous.

Re: gave up 305 build

ive been wanting to know if a 350 or 383 with vortec heads will it be able to beat my friends 94 z28? he has a cold air magnaflow exhaust and chip i think. it is pretty fast and he always leaves me in the dust well if i get a bigger engine and he still beats me then ill have to give nos a try. man you do not know this guy he will not stop bragging day after day is just one of those guys he doesnt even know **** about cars and hes a total ******* and acts like he knows everything(he thought a posi rear would make a car faster because one wheel would spin forward and the other backwards) he has no idea what lifters are or what a cam does.hes one of those guys that married a rich girl so he sits at home getting fat doesnt work for s**t. everything he has his wife bought for him i just wanna shut him up he is so obnoxious
