already messed up
I just bought a 350 to rebuild and i bolted it on the engine stand with the flywheel still on......Im not sure but I think this is a problem. This is my first engine build and i rented a lift so i cant take the engine back off the stand. Will the flywheel affect the rebuilding of my 350?? Thanks a bunch

Re: already messed up
change just about everything, and im afraid i wont be able to replace pistons or crank bearings with the flywheel on. Im still kind of new at this so I dont know if the flywheel will affect this. I also have no idea how to get the harmonic balancer off.

To get the harmonic damper off, borrow or rent a harmonic damper puller. Some parts stores like Auto Zone will loan you the tool for a deposit. When you're ready to put it back on, get the install tool.
You should be able to do all the rebuild. Removing the pistons for sure isn't an issue. You could even replace the main bearings if the crank isn't scored. Not sure what your engine stand looks like, but I can remove a flexplate with the engine on my stand. Most likely you could remove the pistons, then pull the main bearing caps, and lift the crank out (might need another set of hands to make sure it comes out straight with the extra weight still attached).
