hey guys i have a few questions for ya about 383 builds.

im looking at building one for about 1200-1500. i know its a tight budget but im seeing if its even possible haha. i havbe a guy that says he will sell me his 383 block with a "fresh" rebuild,pistons rods, and an eagle crank for 400-500 bucks. im looking to do a mild build 400-475 range. is this possible or am i hoping for cheap power. let me know what you think. thanks guys

 

Not trying to rain on your parade,but it sounds like trouble to me.He ain't selling it that cheap because it's in great shape.Your budget is pretty unreasonable for what you want.Everything is costing a lot these days,your budget could get blown on a machine shop bill these days.

 

I'm tryin to do the same thing and its just not possible. I spent more because I bought an almost complete 350 but still its expensive. So far I have paid $650 for the engine .060 over 4 bolt main. $180 for the machine shop and that just cleaning, painting, and new cam bearings. Today I got a complete 383 rotating assembly for $650, which is the cheapest I have found. Last weekend I bought a weiand intake for $40 and valve covers for $95. So its just not possible to get performance for that cheap. Its kind of a spend now to save more later kinda thing. I still have to get everything balanced too. And I would be very very very cautious buying an engine for that cheap. Gettin ripped off is not fun. Sorry for bein a downer dude..

 

I think it is worth it to wait for more money to come in and buy quality parts and have a quality engine, so you can look forward to keeping the engine in your car and not yanking it out to fix whatever problems the cheap parts caused.

 

just get a 383 stroker motor. Its probably the cheapest you can do, unless you want a 383 block. but just get a decent 350 engine with a rebuild and put a 383 crankshaft and a mild cam. should get you around 400 hp? good luck man
