The big block build is starting

I finally got the engine back from the machine shop. I guess I should start taking some pictures of the assembly for those interested in the buildup and installation.

The crank and pistons went in yesterday. Windage tray and a few other things went on today. The pump still needs an extended pickup for the 7 quart pan before I bolt the pan down. The cam is ordered and will arrive in about 2 weeks. After that the bottom end should be finished and the top end starts to get worked on.

454 block bored with a torque plate .030 for 460cid
2 bolt mains with ARP stud kit
TRW forged pistons, .265 dome. 10:1 with 119cc chamber heads.
Line honed and decked for zero deck height
Truck con rods. Polished side beams, shot peened, resized large and small ends. ARP rod bolts. The crank only needed to be polished.
Everything has been finally balanced.

that sounds like an awesome build up, what are you expecting out of it?

I wouldnt mind doing up a 427 but they seem to be hard to come by

Here in Calgary at our altitude I expect to run very low 11's. I also expect to break more parts next year. The only thing holding me back from building something more powerfull is that I don't have a ford 9" diff "yet". If I did then I'd build the engine to push me into the low 10's.

farm-kid/88camaro,

Make me an offer I can't refuse and you can have mine. All the info on it is on my page (500hp/520tq). I want to build a 509 N2O motor for my car. Seriously. I want/need 4 figure hp.
