355 swap/switch
355 swap/switch
so i've got a nice 4-bolt 355 out of a truck (a 96 i think) all lined up to go in my 82 z28 with the stock 4 speed.
i WAS gonna get a 5 speed to swap in at the same time, but i cant find one of the later year models after they sorted out the issues. so im stickin with the 4 speed. anyways. . .
my question is whether or not the bell housing/etc will likely present a fitment issue. it seems to me like everything should be fine since its essentially the same shortblock. yes, no? thanks guys!

I'm not as sure about the 4-speed, but I believe you need a 153-tooth flywheel, and your '82 flywheel will not fit an '86-later crank. Get one for the '86-'92 f-body V8 manual transmission application and you should be fine. The clutch will still need to be for the '82 4-speed, though (at least the clutch disk).

Re: 355 swap/switch
Being as your '82 wasn't the hydraulic clutch release, it's more important to keep the engine from rocking too much. I strongly suggest you get a pair of ploy motor mounts from Energy Suspension. Or at the very least get new stock rubber ones. They're a pain to change, but not as bad as a binding clutch linkage. You'll also want a new pivot ball to screw into the '96 block, instead of just transferring the worn one off your old engine.
