Would a T56 hold up to......

I am still considering building or having built a 454 BBC or 502 BBC with some where around 500-800 hp. I want a manual trans and can get a T56 for $300. Would the T56 hold up to this kind of power or would I need to beef it up? Or would another STANDARD trans be better to run? Thanks in advance, JAY

I dont know of any standard trans short of the viper T56 that will reliably hold 800HP from a BBC. TH400 all the way baby

I don't think you would have a problem if you had stock rubber. I don't think the 800hp mark is realistic for a daily driver. stock rubber is going to spin befor you get that 450 pounds of torque to it. I guess it depends on what you want. if you want to drag race a t-56 is a bad choice. if you want a sports car it rocks. I would think that ramjet 502 with a 5-56 behind it would be sweet. I have seen t-56 behind 680hp motors in magazines and that is about the realistic limit for something streatable that is not supercharged. they were geting 17mpg too on the highway. that mark stielow guy built a sb2 power 68 camaro that kicked *** . I am pretty sure he had t-56 and not the zf 6 speed.
