305 Removal
Can I take the motor out without removing the heads and the serpentine belt system in an 89 Camaro, or should I just go ahead and take all the brackets off the front of the engine and also remove the heads?.....I would like to try and keep the heads on it if I can since the motor is going directly into another car.
How about dropping in another motor? Same question but can I also put the headers on before dropping the engine in or does it make a difference on whose headers I use?.....
Thanks.

You can remove the engine without taking the heads off. I think you don't have to take the serpentine system off, check the clearance with the radiator. Make sure you remove the distributor though, i hear it hits the firewall when you tilt the engine
You can install the engine with headers on IF you have room. What car is this engine now going into? Someone will be able to help with that. Yes the make and style of header will make a huge difference.. what are they?
Have fun

A tilt sling is a must when you have anything other than a bare engine, and helpful even then.

with my past expieriance, No you don't have to take the heads off
take the distrib out. but As far as the brackets goes, keep in mind that you have to unhook the pw/stering, smog and take the engine mount bolts out and make sure the trans lines are not hooked to the engine, if your not pulling the trans out with it.make sure you have your radiator out, yes you can take the whole engine out, but be carefull of the condenser to a/c, we wouldn't want to contaminate the enviroment
Oh if you leave the exaust manafolds on be carfull of the a/c fan housing, the fiberglass will crack. good luck

The motor is going back into another thirdgen Camaro, a friend of mine has a lot of internal trouble with his current 305 so i am letting him have the one I am taking out. What I will be doing in the next couple of weeks (got a lot of cleaning to do to the engine compartment first) is dropping in a 406, but wasn't sure how far I can go in assembling the block before putting it in the car. More than likely I will be using SLP headers, if I can convince myself that they are worth the money.
The 305 I am taking out is all stock.
Thanks for the replies.
