how much for a 406?
well now that i am 100% sure im going through with my 406 TPI project i am wondering about price.
how much will it cost *counting block* to make the 406 *not counting heads and intake/TPI * so basically from oil pan to... pistons... i guess u can say. the reason i am stopping htere is because i already have the heads and tpi stuff. so im wondering how much *about* more i have left to put in. I want the pistons and crank to be forged and a desent cam *im trying to make about 500 HP*
anyone have a guesstimate?

you can get a used block for like $200, at least that's what i paid. Expect $300-$500 or so in block work, and musclemotors.com has an $829 rotating assembly for a 400 block including forged pistons, rods, and forged crank.
Then cam. You can go non-roller and pick virtually anything, but if you want to go roller cam, you'll need retro fit lifters, which adds another $300 or so to the mix. Anyway, the whole cam deal can be $200 - $600 depending.
Add an oil pump, oil pan, water pump, rings, bearings, and gaskets, and you're probably looking at around a $2500-$3000 price tag. I'm leaving out a lot of ****, because you said you have a whole top end already.
