would i need to build up the tranny and rear end?

alright im thinkin about building up a 383 stroker and droppin it in.....about how much torque and hp will my stock tranny and rear end hold up to??

not much....the 84 700r4's are junk. The rear end will hold up a while, provided you _don't_ have traction. Bolt any slicks or drag radials on tho, and you're gonna have issues.

I'd recommend at least building a solid transmission for the 383, and you can worry about the rear later on. Do yourself a favor tho, and get an 87 or up 700r4 core to rebuild. Don't even bother with the 84.

When I had a 383 I was using a TH350 tranny and a stock 3.27 geared 9 bolt running high 11's

well this sucks......i was gonna put a lot of money into the motor and then build up the tranny and stuff later......now i gotta blow money on that other crap first.......well thanks for tellin b4 i started

looks like another year of runnin the 305

It will live for awhile...

Just get a core tranny and have it in the shop as soon as you get the funds. That way when you do blow the trans (which might last longer than you think) you can do the swap.
