Can anyone help me??
Can anyone help me??
Alright guys, here's the story: I have a '95 Camaro with a 3.4L V6. I blew the motor. It looks like the crankshaft went through the block
. My dad seems to think that what broke was simply an aluminum cover but I'm thinking about the worst case scenario. Worst case scenario: I need a new engine. I really don't want to spend a couple of grand just to have the same engine. The 3.8L V6 uses the same drivetrain and motor mounts as mine. All that would have to be done is change the computer, radiator, and wiring harness and I found someone who would do everything for under 2K (engine & accessories included). Now, my friends were telling me that I might as well drop in a 350, but for that I'd have to change the tranny and driveshaft as well, not to mention the motor mounts
. I don't have that kind of money. Another one of my friends told me why not put in a 305 instead which uses the same drivetrain (T5 tranny). My question is, does it use the same motor mounts? If not, then is there some way to adapt it while keeping things cost effective? Any ideas would really help me out...

your friends are dumb
putting in a 350 or 305 is the exact same amount of work. you have a v6 tranny you need a v6 engine to bolt to it. OR, your other choice: a 4.6L 300HP Cadillac Northstar engine will bolt to it. lots of HP not nearly the TQ of a LT1 350 so I think the tranny should handle it. You need to see if the 3.8L can even bolt right to your 3.4L tranny. I'm not sure if it will.
I was talking out my butt on the TQ numbers. I'll check them asap. LT1s have 325TQ I think, L98s had 345TQ.
Just checked. 4.6L caddy v8 has 295TQ

its bolt pattern to the block is different. that's gonna be the sticking point in your swap. You could try putting in a GTP supercharged 3.8L. now that I think more about it, the caddy DOHC might be too wide.
